Against Costa Rica on Wednesday, the U.S. never recovered from its disastrous start. The Americans gave up a goal 79 seconds in and lost 3-1.

“It’s something we will continue to address,” U.S. coach Bob Bradley said. “It’s concentration. It’s decisions コスプレearly in the game. At the higher levels, you can’t keep putting yourselves in that hole. We have to look hard at some of these plays that have led to these chances.”

As of Saturday night, the coach said he had not shown his players tape of the Costa Rica loss. But he certainly had seen enough.

“In the first minute-and-a-half there are five or six decisions and reactions that are not good enough,” he said.

The team will have plenty to discuss in the next few weeks. The Americans are scheduled to leave today for South Africa for the Confederations Cup to face world powers Italy on June 15 and Brazil on June 18. The trip concludes June 21 against Egypt.

“It’s a big test for us,” Donovan said. “It gives you a good taste of what the World Cup will be like. We’re going to try to take advantage of it. We’ll find out what we’re made of.”

The Americans return for the CONCACAF Gold Cup in July. They resume World Cup qualifying against host Mexico on Aug. 12. Road games also will be played against Trinidad and Tobago and Honduras.

“Right now we’re in good position,” Donovan said. “The next half is going to be hard with three road games.”

Despite eye-watering starts for the U.S. last week, goalkeeper Tim Howard was upbeat.

“Not terribly concerned,” Howard said. “Yes, it happened two games in a row so it’s highlighted. We’re not going to overanalyze it.”

Perhaps the biggest sore spot for the U.S. was the subject of artificial turf. The synthetic surface at Saprissa Stadium in Costa Rica is a sticking point for Bradley.

Asked to confirm a rumor of plans for a formal protest of artificial turf to FIFA, Bradley said: “We never make excuses. When we play poorly in Costa Rica. We look at ourselves.”

The next part of his response was more enlightening.

“The field is terrible, and FIFA 痴漢should not allow artificial surfaces,” he said. “They should have some courage. They should stop it. It’s no good for the players, and somehow I hope the players around the world have the ability to stand up and say, ‘We’re not playing on this, plain and simple.’ “

In a series defined by big, ugly and sloppy innings, the Marlins and Brewers decided to sculpt a masterpiece in the fifth inning Wednesday night at LandShark Stadium.

Together, they combined to throw 94 pitches, send 21 batters to the plate, score 10 runs, collect eight hits, walk fiveぽっちゃり times (three with the bases loaded) and make three errors in an inning that took nearly an hour to complete. Unfortunately for most of the 13,012 who watched, it was the visitors who produced the most damage.

Taking advantage of a tough start by rookie Sean West and some terrible relief by Hayden Penn, the Brewers got in front far enough to hold on for a 9-6 victory — their first in the four-game series that concludes Thursday.

”That has to be one of the craziest innings I’ve seen in baseball,” Marlins manager Fredi Gonzalez said. “But that’s what happens when you don’t throw strikes and walk people.”

The Marlins (25-29) won the first two games because of big innings. They scored five off former closer Jorge Julio in the sixth in Monday’s win and then struck for five more with a Cody Ross grand slam in Tuesday’s 10-3 blowout.

But it was the NL Central-leading Brewers (31-22) who had the biggest inning Wednesday, taking advantage of three Penn walks with the bases loaded for six runs and a 9-1 lead in the fifth inning. Penn, acquired in a trade with the Orioles in spring training, was designated for assignment after Wednesday’s game.

”It was just one of those things where I couldn’t get locked in at all. Anything I tried to do wasn’t working,” said Penn, whose ERA rose to 7.77. “It’s baseball — it happens. It’s a pretty helpless feeling when you can’t throw a ball over the plate.”

Florida responded with six hits and four runs off Milwaukee starter and former Marlins pitcher Braden Looper, who left after walking Jeremy Hermida to load the bases.

Dan Uggla, who became the fastest second baseman to reach 100 career home runs on Tuesday night, came up to the plate against Seth McClung. Three pitches and no swings later, he was out and the Marlins’ rally was over.

Uggla blasted his team-leading 11th home run of the season in the eighth, drilling a pitch off McClung to the upper deck in left field. But it came much later with nobody on and the game nearly over.

Trevor Hoffman, who earned three saves against the Marlins in Milwaukee in May, pitched a scoreless ninth inning to record his 14th save of the season and 568th of his career.

The long night and long inning overshadowed a tough start for West, who pitched well in his first two outings against the Mets and Rays but looked like a rookie in his third career start.

He gave up an RBI double to Prince Fielder in the first, then a two-run home run to former University of Miami standout Ryan Braun in the third to fall behind 3-0.

After Jorge Cantu hit his first home run since May 6 for the Marlins’ first hit off Looper in the fourth inning, West and the Marlins ran into real trouble in the fifth inning.

After Braun reached on Hanley Ramirez’s fifth error of the season at short, Fielder singled to center. Gonzalez then pulled his rookie for Penn.

”I just hope I get another chance to prove myself,” said West, who fell to 0-1. “I’ve got a lot to prove.”

But it didn’t get any better. Penn was アナルable to get only one out before he walked the Brewers’ final three hitters — Bill Hall, Jason Kendall and Looper — with the bases loaded. Three pitches later, Gonzalez pulled Penn with a 2-1 count. Both Gonzalez and Penn left to a chorus of boos.

”I don’t really want to bash him,” Gonzalez said of Penn. “We’ve got 10 days to trade him or keep him. Hopefully, he stays in the organization and we work with him in the minor leagues and he comes back and helps us out.”

Don’t beam me up, Scotty. The Capt. James T. Kirk in the new “Star Trek” film is proof of how much ground men have lost in today’s culture. Before you tell me it is just a movie, recall the words of series creator Gene Roddenberry: “I have no belief that Star Trek depicts the actual future,” Roddenberry said, “it depicts us, now…” And right now, the latest Star Trek depicts men as insecure, impulsive lechs who need women and aliens to keep them out of trouble.Consider four attributes of the ideal man: self-control, 逆サポbravery, confidence and sex appeal. In the original series, Kirk has supreme self-control. He sacrifices himself for the safety of his crew and, in more than one episode, even chooses duty over true love. In the latest “Star Trek,” Kirk is Peter Pan, an irresponsible, reckless man-boy. (Warning: plot spoilers ahead.) The new Kirk tears down an empty Iowa highway in a stolen hot rod and drives off a cliff, jumping out to save himself, not the car. He gets into bar潮吹き fights to serve his vanity, not some higher cause like rescuing the crew from aliens. While the original Kirk used reason, the new one mostly leaves that to Spock.
